The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) recently renewed its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), pledging nearly a billion pesos over the next five years to fund scholarships, education technology, teacher training programs, and other vital school support.
This transformative collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement signing at the Robinsons Equitable Tower, highlighting GBF’s commitment to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the Philippines and preparing the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s world.
At the event, Lance Gokongwei, GBF chairman and head of the Gokongwei Group, highlighted the foundation’s focus on empowering educators through professional development, harnessing technology to expand its reach, and working closely with DepEd to implement impactful programs.
For his part, Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara Jr. expressed his gratitude for GBF’s unwavering support, noting that the foundation's commitment to education started 30 years ago under the leadership of GBF founder, John Gokongwei Jr., together with his brothers. This legacy of support is being carried on by his children and the family, who remain steadfast in fulfilling the foundation’s vision.
Working towards this, GBF continues to provide scholarships for students and teachers pursuing STEM-related courses, as well as those pursuing a technical vocation (techvoc) path through its Iskolar ni Juan program. It has also made significant endowments to build centers of excellence such as the Ateneo John Gokongwei School of Management, the De La Salle University Gokongwei College of Engineering, the Ateneo Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design, and its own GBF Technical Training Center.
The foundation’s newer initiatives, meanwhile, including the GBF Class Builder—a platform providing educators with innovative lessons and tools to enhance content mastery and teaching strategies—and GBF STEM Collab, an online community for STEM teachers to share knowledge and learn from peers, further demonstrate its commitment to capacity building for educators.
Through its renewed partnership with DepEd and collaboration with other like-minded organizations, GBF is furthering its goal of fostering educational excellence in the Philippines, aligning with John Gokongwei Jr.'s belief that education is the foundation for personal and national progress. The partnership paves the way for a more innovative, inclusive, and skilled workforce, ultimately contributing to the nation's growth and development.
