Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI), the retail affiliate of the Gokongwei Group, has been named one of the World’s Best Companies of 2024 by TIME Magazine and the German market research firm Statista. This recognition reflects the company's commitment to innovation, growth, sustainability, and employee satisfaction.
RRHI Chief Operating Officer Stanley Co expressed the company’s pride in making the prestigious list, saying, “This is a recognition of our efforts as we create even more joyful shopping experiences for the Filipino. We are proud to be among the world’s best companies and will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.”
Meanwhile, RRHI President and CEO Robina Gokongwei Pe attributed the company’s success to its strong relationships with key stakeholders. “This is for our customers, whose trust and loyalty inspire us to innovate and improve every day; our employees, whose passion and resilience drive our achievements; and our partners and stakeholders, who support our goal of creating meaningful breakthroughs for the communities we serve,” she said.
The 2024 list, which now features 1,000 companies — up from 750 in the previous year — ranks the world’s best-performing businesses based on criteria such as employee-satisfaction surveys, revenue growth, and sustainability transparency based on available Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data. TIME economic correspondent Alana Semuels highlighted the unique contributions of the companies on the list, noting, “Many of the top companies have made similar positive societal impacts while making money and keeping their employees happy at the same time.”
Among the Top 5 global leaders are household names such as Apple, Accenture, Microsoft, BMW Group, and Amazon. For locally based firms, RRHI is proud to be one of 13 companies representing the country, placing the Philippines at the top among Southeast Asian nations in terms of number of companies on the list. This achievement outpaces Singapore with 11 companies, Indonesia with five, and Thailand and Malaysia with four each.
Since its founding in 1980 by John Gokongwei Jr., Robinsons Retail has solidified its position as one of the Philippines’ largest and most dynamic retail groups, with a diverse portfolio of sectors aimed at serving the everyday needs of Filipinos. Its retail banners include supermarkets, department stores, do-it-yourself shops, drugstores, convenience stores, consumer electronics and appliances, toys, mass merchandise, fashion specialty, beauty, and pet retail.
Grounded in a customer-centric culture, RRHI is focused on creating delightful shopping experiences with quality products and services. The company has demonstrated consistent growth, having posted PHP 192.1 billion in revenue for the last fiscal year—a 7.4% increase over 2022. With a steadily expanding footprint of close to 2,400 stores, including more than 2,100 franchised TGP (The Generics Pharmacy) outlets, RRHI serves an average of 7.6 million customers each week.
Robinsons Retail is also a leader in sustainability efforts, achieving a 30% reduction in Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions since 2021, and continues to push for environmental responsibility in its operations. Beyond sustainability, the company has been recognized for fostering an inclusive and empowering workplace, proudly earning a spot in Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index in 2023 and the Philippines’ Top Employers lists of 2023 and 2024, as compiled by the Philippine Daily Inquirer in partnership with Statista.
