Mantawi Residences Is the First EDGE-Certified Residential Development in Cebu

Project underscores RLC Residences’ commitment to sustainability & environmental stewardship

RLC Residences’ newest property development in Cebu, Mantawi Residences, has earned the preliminary EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification, the first condominium project in the province to achieve this distinction.

Developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, EDGE is a globally recognized standard for resource-efficient building design. It is awarded to buildings that demonstrate significant reductions in energy, water, and materials consumption compared to conventional buildings. In successfully meeting the IFC’s stringent criteria, Mantawi Residences becomes the second RLC Residences development to earn the preliminary EDGE certification, coming just a few months after Le Pont Residences in Bridgetowne Destination Estate accomplished this remarkable feat. These achievements signify the company’s staunch commitment towards creating eco-friendly and resilient living spaces.

“We are thankful to IFC for recognizing Mantawi Residences as the first EDGE-certified condo development in Cebu. Since we launched this project last year, we have been very vocal about how we designed this property with the environment in mind. Now, it’s here, and we’re very proud that this development will connect our future homeowners to a sustainable life here in Cebu,” said Stephanie Anne Go, Vice President and Business Development and Design Head of RLC Residences.

Congratulating the vertical residential division of Robinsons Land on attaining its second preliminary EDGE certification, Angelo Tan, IFC Country Lead (Climate Business) for the Philippines, Malaysia, and the Pacific, shared, “This is truly a remarkable move towards sustainable living and we are proud to be part of your journey in promoting environmentally friendly building practices.”

Launched in April 2023, Mantawi Residences is inspired by the late founder of the Gokongwei Group, John L. Gokongwei Jr. The peddler-turned-successful businessman famously spent his formative years in Cebu, often speaking of his beloved hometown as the place where he developed his core values, honed his business acumen, and inspired his dreams of nation building.

Located in the heart of Mandaue City in Cebu, Mantawi Residences integrates Earth-friendly design solutions to significantly reduce water and energy consumption. The project will have its own rainwater harvesting system to collect and recycle rainwater for non-potable use, including watering of landscaped areas. Meanwhile, units and common areas will all have water-efficient showerheads, faucets, water closets, and bidets, aimed at reducing water consumption by up to 36%.

Other sustainable features integrated into the development will help future residents enjoy lower energy costs. Insulated roof decks and exterior walls installed in the towers will help minimize heat absorption, while bigger unit windows are designed to balance lighting and ventilation needs, leading to lower energy consumption for air conditioning. The property’s smart energy meters will accurately measure power usage and provide real-time information to power utility companies. In the parking areas, meanwhile, carbon monoxide levels will be closely monitored to aid the car park ventilation system in maintaining a good parking area environment. All these and more contribute to the expected 28% energy savings of Mantawi Residences upon its completion.

“This certification underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By achieving EDGE certification for Mantawi Residences, we not only enhance the value of our properties but also contribute to the global effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable development,” added Go.
