The Residences at The Westin Manila Now Runs on 100% Renewable Energy

In partnership with ACEN RES, RLC Residences is transitioning its properties to cleaner energy.

On December 26, 2024, The Residences at The Westin Manila transitioned to 100% renewable energy, becoming the first RLC Residences property to do so under the Department of Energy's Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). The GEOP is a voluntary policy mechanism that allows electricity consumers to choose renewable energy sources for their power needs.

“We at RLC Residences are truly grateful to reach this milestone. Switching to renewable energy benefits both the environment and our homeowners, translating to energy cost savings of about 8-10% for residents. It’s a win-win for us, our clients, and the planet,” said Chad Sotelo, Senior Vice President and Business Unit General Manager of RLC Residences and Chief Marketing Officer of Robinsons Land Corporation

This successful shift to green energy was made possible through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity supply arm of ACEN Corporation. As a leading provider of renewable energy to businesses, ACEN RES facilitates the shift to sustainable power sources. By adopting clean energy, this initiative reduces reliance on fossil fuels, lowers carbon emissions, and has the potential to lower utility costs.

According to Sotelo, The Residences at The Westin Manila is the first of many developments supporting RLC Residences' commitment to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to deliver 1 million square meters of net-zero condominiums by 2031. Seven additional projects are currently transitioning to renewable energy, with completion expected in the first half of the year, while 20 more are set to begin the switch within the next two years.

ACEN RES estimates that once all 28 RLC Residences projects complete their transition, annual CO2 emissions will be reduced by 344,281 kilograms.

In 2024, RLC Residences partnered with IFC to commit 1 million square meters (GFA) of net-zero carbon and resilient condominiums by 2031. This collaboration focuses on implementing green building strategies through IFC’s Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification and assessing resilience using the Building Resilience Index (BRI) tool.
