Universal Robina Corporation’s subsidiary in Thailand has notched two more awards for its URGreen project aimed at slashing its carbon footprint and protecting the environment through conservation.
For a second year in a row, URC (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was recognized by Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) award.
This was after the company managed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 10,000 tons in 2023 – roughly equivalent to planting 833,333 trees – by turning to solar energy, recycling and waste segregation, and using organic waste for animal feed.
URC Thailand’s Factory No. 5 and Raw Material Warehouse 2, meanwhile, were granted the privilege of using the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) logo by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, also in recognition of the company’s efforts to curb its greenhouse gas emissions.
In recognition of URC Thailand's efforts to curb its greenhouse gas emissions, Boonyarat Chunet received on the company's behalf the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) certificate from Pongpanu Svetarundra, chairman of Thailand's Greenhouse Gas Management Organization. IMAGE URC Thailand
“This year, URC once again shows its dedication to conducting business with consideration for people, communities, society, and the environment,” said Tanant Suwanraks, Vice President and General Manager for URC Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
Building on these awards, URC Thailand launched the URGreen Upcycling Uniform initiative earlier in 2024 to raise awareness about global warming among its own employees.
This project encourages staff to collect water bottles for recycling into new uniforms, which are then showcased at a company fashion show. To highlight inclusivity and equality within the organization, employees from diverse backgrounds were selected as models during the event.
For 2025, URC Thailand plans to produce an additional 4,800 recycled uniforms from 67,000 bottles, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,300 kilograms per year, equivalent to planting 700 trees.
“At URC, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have consistently instilled a sense of sustainability to the people, including our customers and employees, aiming to make the world a better place together,” said Suwanraks.
Apart from its environment-focused initiatives, URC Thailand has also been winning awards for its products.
Two of its top-selling brands – Fun-O and Tivoli – have landed in the rarefied list of Asia’s most influential brands, topping the Biscuit and Wafer categories, respectively in the 2023 Top Influential Brands Awards.
The company has also been named as an “Outstanding Food Manufacturer”, a distinction it first clinched in 2020.
Its Dewberry Puff Cake Orange, meanwhile, was cited as an “outstanding food product on the major use of local raw materials” at the FDA Quality awards organized by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health.
